My first column for WORD is now online and in print. I wrote about AYMS! -- a terrible affliction that certain young poets are suffering from. I would love some feedback. Either in comment form or through email [jonfiorentino at yahoo dot ca].

P-Doody has a bit to say... go to my blog to connect the dots to Paul...
Awesome article JPF. I perceive thicker hair from here!
I salute you friend! That essay reads like the work of some asthmatic Canadian Emerson, crying no in thunder against servile craftsmanship and receding hairlines... It's counterintuitive, but I think you're right about the fundamentally conservative nature of AYMS... I only pray that you've caused one or two of these folks to take a long hard look in the mirror (and to look for more than bald spots when they do it) we don't need their repunklican antics 'round here...

thanks, guys. and dave, thanks for your very entertaining review of asthmatica!
awesome!
Jon
hey, it was my pleasure--Asthmatica is an excellent book (my one regret is that I didn't review it back when I was doing the blog every day and people were actually reading it!)
Dave
Great column! I look forward to the next.
thanks, brenda!
good, well-writ article. like how you lighten it up w/ the hair loss (no pun intended). having read them, not sure it elevates too much above that which it attacks... but def rogaines some ground (that was shameless - and the first was intended). the e-mag is great, much needed now.
thanks hardy f, by the way, i don't think the intro of post-prairie is convoluted. but maybe i was trying to impress kroetsch too much. i dunno. wouldn't you?
anyways, the word piece is a light piece. and i am still figuring out what the tenor of the column should be.
i've always loved word and i hope it can keep rocking...
I enjoyed the piece, Jon. I agree that reviews should be descriptive rather than prescriptive. In fact I think reviews that bash a text and do nothing more than show off the reviewer's own ego are counterproductive, since they turn off the few who might consider buying poetry books. Well, those who don't already disregard reviews when they decide to purchase a book of poetry.
Man, I'm pissed. Thanks a lot. After reading your article, now I'm an AYM. Damn you JPFffff.
And I'm not even a dude.
"And I'm not even a dude."
You can see a specialist about that. It's never too late.
heehee. I could be a boy.
that's the spirit!
